ORACLE TOUR:
The Danvers Senior Oracle is separated into various Sections in order to group similar articles together for ease of 'surfing' through the Oracle by new and repeat viewers. These Sections are listed on the left side of the Oracle Front Page. Viewers can select Sections in any order they prefer.
The Oracle accepts any new or previously published material. Articles that are not solely the work of the submitter, must list the sources upon which the article is based, so that a valid credit notice can be established.
The current viewing Sections are:
"SEASONAL": Contains new articles or previously printed articles, from the Oracle or the Oniontown, that relate to any current season of the year or special holiday.
"DANVERS": Contains informative and historic summaries about Danvers and local area facts, events, and other items of interest.
"SERIES": Consists mainly of continuing articles, contributed by Oracle members, pre-published articles on a specific theme, or submitted by the general public.
"HISTORICAL": Contains articles that pertain to historic events, either local or national in scope.
"REMEMBRANCES": Consists of personal experiences or involvement with local or historical events.
"POETIC": Contains all types of poetry - either rhymed or free verse - that are recently composed or previously published. Submitters must identify the source of all published works.
"INSPIRATIONAL": Items may be prose or poetic, which may have some personal relationship to a religious experience, relate to a spiritual event, or spiritual in content.
"REFLECTIONS": Consists of personal incidents that are of human interest and relate to local events or life experiences.
"ESSAYS": Contains articles based on personal opinions - except those of a political nature - or thoughts on local situations and their effects on our lives.
"HOMOROUS": Contains comical anecdotes, etc., that have been received by e-mail or were passed on through the Internet.
"ARTISTIC": Contains actual artwork of local artists - for viewing only - or reactions to local artwork or displays.
"QUOTATIONS": Wisdom is understanding what is true, right, or lasting. In other words, common sense and good judgement. Oracle will accept short items that are serious, thoughtful and reflective, or humorous in nature - bringing joy to the viewer, and laughter to the heart.
"LETTERS": The Oracle will reprint any letter that is of local interest, and is unbiased to any person or situation.
"OT REPRINTS": Articles that were originally published in the Oniontown Seniors newsletters, and then published in the Oracle, are placed in this section when they are removed from the regular sections.
"DSO DATA": Contains the New Senior Center dedication data, Oracle's Statement of Purpose, Copyright Statement, Committee Member lists, and other policy guidelines and information about DCOA.
"ARCHIVE": All articles removed from the general viewing sections are stored in the Archives. These articles are still available for viewing, but are stored here to help reduce excessive lists under the current article sections. These articles then have no assigned section.
*****
Also included on the Front Page are several other Featured Sections:
"CLIP ART and MESSAGE AREA": Each month, a variety of Clip Art is included in this area to commemorate the special events of the respective month. As of October 2000, there may be a Special Message inserted just below the Clip Art description line. Sometimes, a connection to a related article is inserted for the viewer's use.
"NEW ARTICLES of the MONTH": Contains a list of the articles published for the first time in any current month of viewing. After the end of the month, the articles listed are then removed and replaced by the new articles for the current monthly period.
"ORACLE ARTICLES by AUTHORS": A listing of Articles in order by the contributing Authors. Any viewer who wishes to see all of the articles by a given Author can scan the list and then click on any Article Title to view it. This listing has now been separated into individual years in order to reduce the reprinting volume necessary when the current year is being updated.
"TOPIC of the MONTH": This section is for members and viewers to enter their own personal reflections on the event or topic proposed for the next few months.
"SPECIAL PHOTO ALBUMS": This section contains several groups of related photographs that pertain to a specific event, project, or holiday. Most of them have been submitted by Senior Center members, Volunteers, or Oracle viewers. Any group of photos are always welcomed for consideration.
"ITEMS OF SPECIAL INTEREST": This section contains those items that do not relate to the regular sections, but are felt by the committee to be of interest to our viewers.
"INTERESTING PEOPLE": This item features the most dedicated, concerned, talented, and newsworthy individuals associated with the Danvers Senior Center, the town of Danvers, and other local area communities.
"STUDENT CONTRIBUTORS": This feature will highlight the writing and artistic skills of Danvers and local area students, as well as their community involvement efforts. See the Information page about submitting any article or artwork created by a local area student - grammer and high-school accepted.
"ONIONTOWN SENIORS NEWSLETTER": Each month, the Oracle will print the current issue of the Oniontown newsletter. This will be replaced at the beginning of the next month with the current issue. Only the featured articles will be retained for future viewing, and are listed in the following item.
"DOWN MEMORY LANE": A listing of Articles in order of the Authors, that will contain all of the selected articles from the prior issues of the Oniontown Senior newsletter. Since there are fifteen years of featured articles to be reviewed, we will start to reprint them for Oracle viewers by each month for all the prior years of the newsletter. They will be made available in the OT Reprints section of the Oracle.
"NEW LINK THIS YEAR": The Danvers Senior Center has created a new Web site, and the Oracle is providing their new E-mail and Web site addresses for any viewer who would like to write to them or visit their site.
*** - the following item has been temporarily discontinued - ***
"QUESTION OF THE MONTH": This is a type of "Letters to the Editor", intended to prompt responses from Senior members and our viewers. Feel free to inform us about your own personal reflections on these questions.
